Mutiny, times 2

Voyager's 6th Season, and 1st season alone without DS9, began last night with 2 captains, and 2 crews who have had enough.

Voyager's 6th season opener, Equinox Part II, began where Part I left off last season, the alien creature heading straight for Janeway's head. In the last possible second, Chakotay bounded to Janeway's rescue, knocking her flat on the ground and being struck by the alien himself. Talk about your disappointing resolution to a question that has been haunting us all summer, something a little more dramatic would have been better. As Seven and the doc are trapped on the Equinox, the Voyager crew is unaware of the spy residing in their own sickbay. Voyager's doc is activated on the Equinox and quickly, his ethical subroutines are deleted. He was instructed to conduct surgery on Seven to retrieve some encryption codes she had used to lock out the Equinox's enhanced warp core, unfortunately, the process would inhibit Seven's vocal and other functions. In the meantime, Captain Janeway has gone on a personal vendetta against the Captain of the Equinox for what he has done. Captain Janeway goes beyond anger to all-out madness taking tremendous risks and doing outright cruel things to track down Ransom, including nearly killing one of the crewmembers of the Equinox, once again Chakotay comes to the rescue, this time to the Equinox crewmembers, directly violating Janeway's orders, Janeway confines him to quarters, the crew of Voyager nearly on the verge of mutiny against her. Captain Ransom starts having little visions during his experiences on the beach in his tiny little portable holodeck which looks like something you use when your vocal cords are torn of Seven in a peach dress, telling him to find another way to get home then killing the aliens, while the Mr. Hyde version of the holodoc works on mutilating Seven, while stimulating several nerves and implants to make her sing along with him. Ransom has a nearly instantaneous change of mind and orders his crew to contact Voyager and surrender. Here comes Mutiny Number 2, only this one didn't just go to the verge of mutiny, but all out mutiny, Max (the name of the Mutiny leader and an old flame of Bellana Torres, (he called her BLT)) orders a female crewmember (if anyone caught her name please e-mail it to me) to escort Ransom to the brig, she says yes, breaks out the phaser and leads her CO off the bridge, but not to the brig, instead to Engineering, where they work together to beam almost everyone off the ship. Ransom contacts Janeway who immediately drops her little grudge and invites them aboard. They get everyone off except Ransom himself, Max, and a handfull of loyals that were with Max on the Bridge, the Equinox explodes in a flurry of fireworks and the people who were saved joined the Voyager Crew but were stripped of rank and position. Doc gets back aboard where both he and his Equinox counterpart are in Sickbay. Equinox Doc warns the Doc we all know and love not to move because there are explosive charges embedded in the holo emitters which he can detonate at a single command, but Voy Doc had an easier command, he didn't even let the threat get finished, "Computer delete Equinox EMH", that solved that split personality problem. After fixing Seven up, the Doc expresses his concern to Seven that "a simple sequence of commands can turn me into Mr. Hyde", Seven offers to help him set up some security measures in his program, then insults his singing, saying he was off-key and offers to help him with that too, He, taking the insult somewhat jokingly and yet somewhat poorly at the same time sets a date with Seven in the Holodeck with a tuning fork. Janeway apologizes to Chakotay for her insane actions, then notices that Voyager's dedication plaque had fallen off the wall.

Janeway: Look at that, all these years, all those battles, this has never fallen down.
Chakotay: Let's put it back up where it belongs.

which of course was Chakotay's way of telling Janeway that it's alright. The plaque symbolized her, it falling off the wall symbolized her falling out of her usually strict code of right and wrong, and putting it back up symbolized her being re-instated, talk about your obvious metaphor, overall it was an ok episode, yet it didn't have the flare I expected from a season premiere. Although now that I think about it, the season premieres lately seem to have a recurring theme: Janeway the raving lunatic.

If you remember, last year's season premiere took place in an area of space with no stars, no planets, no nothing. The whole crew was getting cabin fever and really bored, but Janeway probably took it the hardest, she went wacko and locked herself in her room. Now we got the captain who holds huge grudges and puts herself, her ship, and her crew in danger trying to satisfy her rampage. And the doc, how many times have we seen his evil twin? At least he's finally going to do something about it, and his horrible singing, but that's another topic :)

Spotlight Blooper

Well of course I had to find a blooper in the season pramier, I'd be slacking if I didn't. Actually, I didn't spot this one at first, my little brother, who doesn't really like Trek that much but watches it occasionally and was watching with me because he had hopes that Janeway might actually die, or at least get hurt. Anyway, he spotted this and pointed it out to me.

They must have shot this scene twice from 2 different angles rather than just having 2 cameras and filming it once, but in one scene when Mr Hyde was operating on Seven there was an annoying red light shining on her. When the scene was in an over-her-head view the light was on her cheek, when the scene was on a view of her side, the light was on her temple. Thanks, bro for pointing this out for me.

SubspaceLink Chat (Stardate: 099747.9)

There will be another online chat next Thursday, September 30th (Stardate: 099747.9) at 4 pm Central Time (2 pm Pacific, 5 pm Eastern). During this chat, we will discuss the coming return of the subspacelink.com domain name, the new season of Voyager, and more. Also, we will have a game and visitors to the chat will be given pertinent information that may lead to them getting promoted to the rank of Captain instantly (read the next article for more details.)

The chat will be at 4 pm Central Time, on the Asheboro.NC.US.Tri-Net.org chat server port 6667 in the channel #SubspaceLink

SubspaceLink contests, coming soon.

In the last issue I mentioned a very special SubspaceLink contest, well as an added bonus to the people who attend the next online chat, I will detail the contest out there and edit that part out of the chat transcript so that only the people who are there will know how to win. I'll tell you this now, it will be based on something hidden on the website that someone needs to find to win, there may be more then one winner, and you have almost as much of a chance of finding it if you do not attend the chat as you would if you did. However, the people at the chat will know what to look for, when to look for it, the odds of finding it, and what the prizes will be, SO BE THERE, or miss out on your chance to have a leg up on the competition.

SubspaceLink e-mail!

Hey all, I'm pleased to inform you of the New SubspaceLink free web-based e-mail service. People have asked me to do this for some time now, and I always dismissed it as something that wasn't worth the effort that needed to be put up to create and then maintain such a service. However, I stumbled across a site on the internet that makes it easy enough that I've decided to do it. You can now get your own free SubspaceLink e-mail address by clicking the SUBLINK E-MAIL link in the navbar or by going to http://SubspaceLink.com/

Also, you can now get to the Sublink website from http://www.SubspaceLink.com

SubspaceLink webring

The SubspaceLink webring is now fully operational and a couple sites have joined the ring, If you have a website, please join us in the ring to not only increase hits to your website but other websites in the ring. Check out the SubspaceLink webring site at http://www.geocities.com/sttngfan/Webring/
